Sekundarni naslov: COMPARISON OF SWIMMING SKILLS OF DIFFERENT AGE GROUPS OF YOUNG CHILDREN
Sekundarni povzetek: In the literature based theoretical part of my thesis Comparison of swimming skills of different age groups of young children I will present the pre-school children's overall development, focusing on their physical, emotional, personal, social and motoric development. From the theoretical point of view swimming can be counted to one of the most important children's motoric activities. One learns about the effects learning swimming has on children's proper development, especially in the pre-school period when the first and key phase of learning to swim belongs to children's adjustment to water. The main purpose of my thesis was to find out whether there are differences in adjustment to water between boys and girls, and whether there are differences between the children born in the first (from January to February) and in the second part of the year (from July to December). Therefore, three different generations of children (born in 2006, 2007 and 2008) in three consecutive school years (2011/2012, 2012/2013 and 2013/2014) were observed according to the above mentioned variables with more than 130 children taking part in a 10-hour-swimming course. The empirical part of the thesis focuses on presenting the results gained from observing and assessing the children's swimming skills of the three generations, followed by the interpretation of these results and observation findings. The improvement of children's swimming skills was appointed by measuring the children's initial and final swimming skills. The research showed no differences in adjustment to water between boys and girls, however, negligibly small differences in swimming skills were noticed between children who were born in the first half and those born in the second part of the year, with only a couple of individual children standing out in each observed generation.
