Abstract

Secondary title: Review of analytical methods for the determination of calcium in dietary supplements
Secondary abstract: Calcium is an indispensable macronutrient in our body. It ensures the strength of bones and teeth and is also a key element for muscle function, cellular signalling and hormone release. Taking calcium supplements prevents calcium deficiency and its consequences. The calcium content in food supplements can be determined using classical or instrumental analytical methods. The choice of method depends on the properties of the sample and the requirements of the analysis. In this thesis I have included an overview of the properties of AAS, Ca-ISE, volumetry - complexometric titration and gravimetry. I did a comparison of the scope of the method, the analytes, accuracy, sensitivity, selectivity, destructiveness, speed, price and innovation. I reviewed sample preparations for each method and compared them.
