Abstract

Secondary abstract: The article deals with the theme of otherness, with forms of literary-linguistic polyphony and language crossover in the work of the Slovene-French author Brina Svit. The writer began her literary career writing in Slovene, but after moving to Paris and living for many years in that multicultural city she continued in French. Her work is interesting not only because of her crossing over to a foreign language, but also because of her dealing with the issue of foreignness in a multilingual environment, with intercultural contact and with the personal, national and language issues connected with this. Her characters are often torn between two homes and reconsidering their identity, but show respect for and open interest in what is different and other.
