diplomsko delo

Abstract

Secondary title: Determination of polymorphism of active pharmaceutical ingredients by thermal analysis methods
Secondary abstract: The development of a pharmaceutical product can be a very long, tedious and expensive process due to several factors. One very important factor is the phenomenon of polymorphism. This is a phenomenon where a solid chemical compound has several different crystal structures or can crystallize in different ways. Different polymorphs of the same compound behave differently in the solid state and have different chemical and physical properties, and therefore different biological activity and efficacy, so it is very important which crystalline form of the substance is used for a particular product. There are several different methods to determine the polymorphism. In my thesis, I focused on thermal analysis methods, mainly thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). I chose two samples, acetylsalicylic acid and carbamazepine. First, I searched the literature for the melting points of all crystalline forms of the substance and then carried out thermogravimetric analysis and then differential dynamic calorimetry on both samples. Finally, I performed infrared spectroscopy (IR) on both samples.
