Abstract

Though the borrowing of loanwords concerns both writing as well as speech, the degree of adaptation is not always clear. The uncertainty results in tension between standard and non-standard (colloquial) pronunciation. With the progress of technology and expansion of English as a lingua franca, it becomes hard to define what the appropriate authentic form of a certain expression is. The article discusses the influence of writing on speech, considering the context, style, proper names and the age of the speaker. |
