Abstract
Motiv letnih časov ni imel izrazitega mitološkega značaja in tudi ne točno določenega pomena znotraj antične rimske umetnosti. Zaradi tega je bil sprejemljiv in privlačen za starokrščansko umetnost, ki je iskala tovrstne nevtralne motive, ki niso imeli bogatega mitološkega ozadja in katerih pomen je bil lahko na novo opredeljen. Starokrščanska umetnost ga je tako z rahlimi spremembami vključila v svoj pripovedni svet. Motiv je uporabila v različnih zvrsteh likovne umetnosti, zlasti pa v okviru kiparstva in slikarstva. Pri starokrščanskem kiparstvu so bili starokrščanski sarkofagi eni izmed pomembnih nosilcev, pri katerih se je uveljavila uporaba motiva letnih časov. Ta uporaba motiva letnih časov na starokrščanskih sarkofagih je črpala in se zgledovala po rimski tradiciji uporabe motiva letnih časov na sarkofagih. Tako lahko v kontekstu razvoja sarkofagov z motivom letnih časov oziroma na sarkofagih tipa letnih časov opazujemo prenos motiva letnih časov iz rimske umetnosti v starokrščansko umetnost.

The motif of the four seasons on early Christian sarcophagi |
Secondary abstract: |
The motif of the seasons did not have a distinct mythological character, nor did it have a definite meaning within ancient Roman art. This made it acceptable and appealing to early Christian art, which sought such neutral motifs that lacked a rich mythological background and whose meaning could be redefined. Early Christian art thus incorporated it into its narrative world with slight changes. Within the early christian art the motif was used in various types of fine art, especially in sculpture and painting. In early Christian sculpture, early Christian sarcophagi were one of the important carriers in which the use of the motif of the seasons was established. This use of the motif of the seasons on early Christian sarcophagi drew on and was modeled on the Roman tradition of using the motif of the seasons on sarcophagi. Thus, in the context of the development of sarcophagi with a seasonal motif or on sarcophagi of the seasons type, we can observe the transfer of the seasons motif from Roman art to early Christian art. |
