Secondary abstract: | The contribution attempts to find a descriptively appropriate word-class assignment for the problematic case of the contemporary Slovene lexical item ràd. This word, etymologically clearly an adjective, presents some functional similarities with adverbs, while in terms of morphology it also preserves certain adjectival features. Jože Toporišič proposed classifying ràd as a "modal predicative" (see esp. Toporišič 1982: 407). This hypothesis will be verified by contrasting the features of the Slovene word ràd with its obvious lexical parallel - the Russian rad. |
