diplomsko delo univerzitetnega študijskega programa Varstvoslovje
Abstract

Lie detection |
Secondary abstract: |
The final thesis discusses different aspects of lying, including the definition of a lie, the reasons for lying, the characteristics of a good liar, and the verbal and nonverbal signs of lying. Research shows that there are different definitions of lying and the effects of brain and physiological manifestations on the process of lying. Different motives for lying are described as protection of emotions, avoidance of punishment, self-protection, hurting others, and also the positive association of certain types of lies with other cognitive abilities. The traits of good liars are also noted, including manipulativeness, playfulness, expressiveness, physical appeal, experience, self-confidence, eloquence, original thinking, and others. Research shows that detecting and interpreting lies are complex processes based on verbal and nonverbal signs and that the accuracy of detecting lies is generally low. The thesis also describes techniques for detecting lying and that these methods are useful for investigations in the context of forensic and interrogation situations, but have limitations and are not complete. In the thesis of the research question, we came to the conclusion that nonverbal signs alone cannot tell whether someone is lying or not. We also found that emotions are expressed through nonverbal signs. People with higher emotional intelligence control their emotions more easily, which means that the leakage of emotions via nonverbal cues is less, and people with higher emotional intelligence are harder to detect lying. |
