Abstract

Skimming goljufije so vrsta finančnih goljufij, kjer goljufi pridobijo podatke o kreditnih karticah brez vednosti imetnikov kartic.

Secondary title: Skimming frauds in Slovenia
Secondary abstract: Skimming fraud is a type of financial fraud where criminals obtain credit card details without the cardholders knowledge. This type of fraud is usually carried out using devices called skimmers, which are attached to ATMs or other electronic payment devices. When victims use their payment cards on these devices, the skimmers read and store card information such as the card number, cardholder name, expiry date and security code. Skimming devices are often very difficult to detect as they are designed to fit perfectly into legitimate devices. Fraudsters then use the data to create fake cards, which they then use to withdraw cash or make purchases on the victims account. In addition to physical skimming devices, there are also digital methods, such as online skimming where malicious code captures payment card details that users enter during the purchase process. These methods allow fraudsters to retrieve data remotely, making it even more difficult to detect fraud. The aim of this thesis is to highlight and draw attention to the key risks and gain a deeper understanding of payment skimming fraud, as well as to examine the consequences resulting from these frauds and how this affects long-term trust in payment systems and financial institutions. Through a survey questionnaire, we aim to find out what knowledge and experience bank users in Slovenia have with skimming fraud. The results of the survey show a comparison of various characteristics of individuals and their experience with skimming fraud. We found that most people were not victims of skimming fraud. Of those who were, the majority informed the bank when the fraud was detected.
