Abstract

Kakovostno prevajanje podnaslovov zahteva suvereno obvladovanje izvirnega jezika in materinščine, saj moramo kdaj domiselno rešiti nekatere jezikovne zagate, kot so besedne igre. Opisali smo, katere vrste besednih iger poznamo, in predstavili metode prevajanja le-teh. Na kratko smo predstavili tudi serijo Brooklyn 9-9. V empiričnem delu smo analizirali 71 besednih iger iz prve in druge sezone serije Brooklyn 9-9. Besedne igre smo klasificirali po metodah prevajanja po Dirku Delabastiti. Namen analize je bil ugotoviti, če so prvine ustrezno prevedene ali so izpuščene, katere prevajalske metode so uporabljene, in če je v ciljnem jeziku ohranjen humoristični učinek.

Secondary abstract: Subtitling is very challenging since certain technical regulations must be followed. Proficiency in both the source language and target language is necessary for producing high-quality subtitle translations, as we occasionally need to find inventive solutions to linguistic puzzles like wordplays. The purpose of wordplays is to create a humorous effect on the target audience, thus the translator needs to domesticate them so that they are more relatable to the target audience and have the same effect as the source audience. In the master's thesis, we analyzed English subtitles in the comedy series Brooklyn nine-nine and their transfer to Slovene, focusing primarily on translated elements such as wordplays. In the theoretical part, we initially described audiovisual translation, but we emphasized subtitling and its advantages and disadvantages. We focused on elements such as wordplays. We described what types of wordplays we know and presented the methods of translating them. We also gave a quick overview of the Brooklyn nine-nine series. In the empirical part, we analyzed 71 wordplays from the first and second seasons of the series. We classified wordplays according to the translation methods proposed by Dirk Delabastita. The purpose of the analysis was to determine if elements are properly translated or omitted, which translation methods are used, and if the humorous effect is preserved in the target language.
