Abstract

Uvod: Pospešeno staranje svetovnega prebivalstva bo vodilo do povečanja deleža starejših v delovni sili. Računalniški kognitivni trening (RKT) je učinkovit pri izboljšanju kognitivnih sposobnosti, vendar kljub temu njegove koristi za starejše delavce ostajajo premalo raziskane. Preverjali smo učinkovitost RKT v realnem okolju, na delovnem mestu, s poudarkom na zaposlenih, starih 50+ let, iz javnega sektorja. Metode: referenti za izvajanje zavarovanj (n = 82) so bili randomizirani bodisi v intervencijsko skupino (24 45-minutnih vadb RKT dvakrat na teden) bodisi v pasivno kontrolno skupino. Meritve kognitivnih sposobnosti, dobrobiti (well-being), zadovoljstva pri delu in produktivnosti so bile zbrane in ocenjene pred in po-RKT. Rezultati: Udeleženci, ki so opravljali RKT, so izboljšali izvršilne sposobnosti (p = 0,04). Opaziti je trend spremembe delovne produktivnosti po-RKT (p = 0,09), pri čemer je kontrolna skupina pokazala znaten upad (p = 0,02), medtem ko je intervencijska skupina ostala stabilna. Zaključek: RKT med delovnim časom pisarniških delavcev pozitivno vpliva na kognicijo in ohranjanje dobrobiti brez padca produktivnosti (kljub porabi 5 % delovnega časa za RKT). Ob novih izzivih in zahtevah spreminjajočih se delovnih mest bi RKT lahko bil preventivna in podporna intervencija za pomoč starejši delovni sili pri ohranjanju in izboljšanju kognitivnih in vedenjskih sposobnosti.

Secondary abstract: Introduction: The accelerated aging of the world’s population will lead to an increase in the number of older people in the workforce. Computerized Cognitive Training (CCT) is effective in improving cognitive outcomes, owever, its benefits for older workers remain insufficiently researched. We investigate the real-world efficacy of CCT in the workplace, focusing on employees aged 50+ years from a public sector agency. Methods: Case managers (n = 82) were randomized to either an intervention group (24 45 min CCT sessions two times per week) or passive control group. Cognitive ability, well-being, job satisfaction, and productivity outcome measures were collected and assessed before and after CCT. Results: Participants undergoing CCT improved on a task of executive functioning (p = 0.04). There was a trend towards a change in work productivity after CCT (p = 0.09), with the control group showing a significant decrease (p = 0.02), while the intervention group remained stable. Conclusions: CCT during office hours among white-collar office workers has a positive effect on cognition and maintenance of well-being without a decline in productivity (despite spending 5 % of working time on CCT). Amid the new challenges and demands of evolving workplaces, CCT could be a preventive and supportive intervention to assist the older workforce in maintaining and enhancing cognitive and behavioral abilities.
