ǂThe ǂeffect of cognitive computer training in active older adults |
Sekundarni povzetek: |
Ageing of population has contributed to an increased interest in cognitive computer training (CCT). Our research was aimed at verifying how CCT affected cognitive abilities and self-evaluation scores as well as how it was connected with initial cognitive abilities and life satisfaction of active older adults. The research comprised 46 subjects of whom 25 received CCT and the remainder were assigned to a control group. Before and after the intervention, both groups were tested with a test battery which consisted of a demographic questionnaire, a questionnaire comprising an evaluation of different abilities as well as of objective tests of cognitive abilities. The outcomes showed a statistically significant effects of CCT on spatial abilities as well as on short-term and long-term memory. However, there was no notable difference between verbal abilities, as had been anticipated. We have also noticed profound effects of CCT on individuals with low actual cognitive abilities in the field of visual and spatial abilities, short-term memory, verbal fluency and information processing speed as well as on individuals with low self-evaluation scores in the filed of verbal abilities, visual and sensory abilities and visual memory. The Cohen's d showed major impact on actual visual and spatial abilities. Positive outcomes of the research indicate that it would be good for older adults to be included in CCT. The outcomes further indicate that in the future it would be desirable to deal with the metacognitive aspect of participants as well. |
