Abstract

Secondary title: Cross-curricular integration of slovenian language with history from the 7th to the 9th grade of elementary school
Secondary abstract: The aim of this Thesis is to find out to what extent the content of the Slovenian Language class is linked to the content of the History one. Cross-curricular integration is a modern didactic approach that enables students to understand the deeper relationships between phenomena. Knowledge acquired in this way is expected to be more lasting. An analysis of the Elementary school curricular for Slovenian Language and History shows that the curricula contains a number of similarities that would allow for cross-curricular integration between the two subjects. The analysis of the Elementary school curriculum material has also showed that the content of the curriculum material allows for a number of cross-curricular links, particularly the ones regarding topics and themes from the ancient and medieval period, also an early middle ages. The analysis of survey responses from Slovenian and History teachers, as well as students of the two subjects, has showed that all respondents have a positive attitude towards cross curricular integration and wish that it could be implemented more frequently. Cross-curricular integration enriches lesson quality and allows students to integrate their knowledge into a coherent whole. This is why it is important for Elementary school teachers of Slovenian Language and History to encourage and implement cross-curricular integration.
