Abstract

Magistrska naloga obravnava domoljubne in verske elemente v slovenskih in srbskih otroškega romana Srce (ital.

Secondary title: Patriotic and religious elements in Slovenian and Serbian translations of the novel Cuore
Secondary abstract: This master’s thesis examines the patriotic and religious elements in Slovenian and Serbian translations of Edmondo de Amicis' children's novel Cuore and explores the influence of cultural and political context on their translation. The author analyzes selected fragments from the original at the microstructural level, focusing on adaptations, omissions and additions and their effect on the interpretation of patriotic and religious motives. The research also includes the broader cultural Italian context, comparing it with the Slovenian and Serbian environments, and identifying how ideological and political transitions in different historical periods have influenced the translations. Particular emphasis is placed on comparing Slovenian and Serbian translations with Yugoslav-era editions and more modern translations, in order to explain the differences in the understanding of patriotism and religion across different historical periods. The analysis reveals the influence of cultural and social factors on translation strategies and on the perception of patriotic and religious elements in Slovene and Serbian literature. Ultimately, it offers insight into the wider effects of translation, which extend to the shaping of national identity and moral values in different environments, while also considering the critical responses to the analysed translations.
