Preschool period is very important for the speech development, since this is the time when a child starts learning how to express emotions, experiences and he starts communicating with peers, parents, his kindergarten teacher and others. Parents’ role is here very important, because they show their child the ways of communicating and they teach him/her the correct speech. The child in this way learns new words through describing, narrating and communicating.
While being with children at my work, I have often observed their speech. I have noticed that within the same age, there are big differences in speech between children. This was the reason why I decided to look into the speech area. The biggest attention was given to researching the differences in children’s narrating by considering their parents’ education.
In the theoretical part of this diploma paper I presented the speech, the communication and the dialog. The empirical part shows how I looked into the differences between the narrating of a child with higher education and a child whose parents only have secondary education. I was interested in the number of words that the children of these two groups were using. At the end the words were classified into the parts of speech and I compared the results of the two groups. |
