Secondary title: Using waste materials at the kindergarten Idrija in the second age group
Secondary abstract: The main subjects of this thesis are ecology and various ways of using and processing waste material in the second age group at the preschool Idrija. Childcare workers have to work in accordance with children’s developmental characteristics. I have summarized them after the psychologist Jean Piaget. With proper waste separation we can contribute considerably towards recycling and environmental care. At our preschool a lot has been done in this field for some years now. The thesis introduces the Ekovrtec project which incorporates many preschools in Slovenia, including the preschool Idrija. We have earned an ecoflag by carrying out activities and realizing the objectives of this project over two school periods. The main part of this thesis focuses on reusing and processing various waste materials in the second age group of children. Children have played an active role in various activities by bringing waste materials, contributing their own ideas and executing them. The first step for the children was to get to know different materials and talk about the possibilities of using them. They also got to know and used different tools and accessories. Children need to be able to learn about different tools, even though some may not be appropriate for their hands yet. This is the only way a child can learn about how different tools can be used with particular materials. The most important task of childcare workers during these activities is to keep the children safe and to help them. After writing this thesis and carrying out different activities I found out that games and interesting activities in preschool period can have a very positive effect on our green planet.

Abstract (ePrints): Diplomska naloga obravnava ekologijo in različne načine uporabe in obdelave odpadnih materialov v drugem starostnem obdobju v vrtcu Idrija. Z izvedenimi dejavnostmi smo uresničevali cilje projekta dve šolski leti, zato smo prejeli ekozastavo. Največ pozornosti je v diplomski nalogi namenjeni ponovni uporabi in obdelavi različnih odpadnih materialov v skupini otrok v drugem starostnem obdobju.
