Secondary language: English
Secondary title: Opinions of preschool teachers and educators of their competences to promote children's speech development
Secondary abstract: Adult speech is very important for speech development of children. In the preschool period, when children attend kindergarten, preschool educator as the leader of the group plays an important role, because he/she directs and encourages children, acknowledges and guides them on the path of successful speech development. In the theoretical part of the thesis lays out the connection of thinking process and speech, milestones in speech development, stages of children’s speech development, and describes in detail the speech development in preschool stage; factors that affect the development of speech, promotion of children's speech development in the kindergarten and language activities carried out by the educator delineated. Finally, the notion of competence as well as more particular competences of educators are outlined. In the empirical part I used a questionnaire with questions for preschool educators about their opinion on how they are qualified to work with pre-school children in the field of language education and what, in their opinion, is their greatest impact on children's speech development. Using their answers I tried to determine whether educators feel competent to promote children's speech development, and which competences are in their opinion necessary for effective promotion of children's speech development. I discovered that the educators feel qualified for the task, and that constant professional promotes the quality of their work in the field of language education. They believe that their greatest impact on children's speech development is achieved through their correct use of language and through the understanding of strategies that promote the development of children's communication skills (competences).
