magistrsko delo Management v zdravstvu in socialnem varstvu
Abstract
Raziskovalna metodologija. Uporabili smo sistematičen pregled literature. Raziskava je potekala z anketnim vprašalnikom. Anketirali smo 120 zaposlenih zdravstvenih delavcev v Zdravstvenem domu Gornja Radgona. Predstavili smo tri hipoteze, ki smo jih sprejeli oziroma ovrgli. Rezultate smo analizirali s programom SPSS (Statistical Package for the Social Sciences).
Rezultati.

ATTITUDES OF HEALTH WORKERS IN PRIMARY HEALTH CARE CENTRE GORNJA RADGONA TO NEAR-DEATH EXPERIENCES |
Secondary abstract: |
Theoretic background. Life's major events and transitions such as death and dying have only recently become the focus of research and have not yet been subject to extensive treatment in Slovenian discourse. Research gives voice to vulnerable social groups – the dying and their relatives (Pahor, Štrancar, 2007). Studies evaluating the level of knowledge of near-death experience (NDE) among health care professionals and their attitude toward this issue are scarce. Among those is a study which aimed to ascertain hospice nurses’ knowledge and attitude toward near-death experience and toward caring for those who have had such experiences (Barnett, 1991). As yet, there is no widely accepted definition of near-death experiences (Klemenc-Ketiš, 2010).
Objective of the thesis. The thesis aims to examine what experiences health care professionals have had with NDEs and how they would react to a patient’s reporting of an NDE.
Methodology. A systematic review of selected literature was carried out. The study employed a questionnaire, which was handed out to 120 medical workers at the health care centre in Gornja Radgona. Three hypotheses were proposed and verified. The results were then analysed using the SPSS (Statistical Package for the Social Sciences) program.
Results. Our research revealed that while health care professionals were knowledgeable of near-death experiences most of them had never encountered a patient reporting an NDE. Furthermore, the results revealed a positive attitude toward a potential report of an NDE by a patient. In most cases health care professionals would not treat such a patient with contempt and would allow him/her to speak up about the ordeal.
Conclusion. Finally, the thesis contains suggestions for improvements and solutions as well as instructions for health care professionals on how to proceed in the event of a patient reporting a near-death experience. |
