Abstract

Kaj oblačilo spremeni v objekt s tisočerimi sporočili in interpretacijami in zakaj le-to, ko zapusti svojo funkcionalno 'modno' sfero in vstopi v svet umetnosti, dobi popolnoma nov, večinoma provokativen pomen in prav tako definicijo.

Secondary title: A garment as sculptural form in contemporary art installation
Secondary abstract: In my diploma thesis with the title A Garment as Sculptural Form in Contemporary Art Installation, I research three main problems – transformation of established sculptural expression in contemporary artistic use; art installation as the most important contemporary sculptural form, which commits itself to the interaction between objects and their contexts; and a garment, which nowadays is not only a new artistic material, but also an effective and potent means of social criticism. I observe how a garment can become more than something we ‘put on’. What is it, that changes a piece of clothing into an object with thousands messages and interpretations; and why does it get a completely new, mainly provocative meaning and definition, when it exits its functional fashion environment?
