Secondary title: | Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman in Slovene Translation: Translation Shifts in Good Omens |
Secondary abstract: | Translators of literary works have several translating strategies to choose from when approaching differences between the source language and the target language. Some of these strategies cause smaller or bigger discrepancies. Consequently the reading experience of the target language readers may differ from that of the source language readers. Another category of discrepancy that can manifest in a translation is a translation mistake. This master thesis focuses on the translating shifts and discrepancies in Boštjan Gorenc's translation of the novel Good Omen, by Neil Gaiman and Terry Prattchet. The thesis analyses how the reading experience changes due to these shifts. Another key interest is the influence of these discrepancies on the characterization of the characters and their perception by the reader. |
