Abstract

Ruska mafija deluje v glavnem v Ruski federaciji, zasledimo jo tudi v bivših sovjetskih republikah, evropskih državah, Izraelu in Združenih državah Amerike. Glavni dobiček predstavlja mednarodna trgovina z drogo in orožjem, promet z nuklearnimi materiali in finančne goljufije.

Secondary abstract: The word mafia originates from Arabic and it means a shelter for the refugees. Mafia was established in Italy in the mid-nineteenth century and it has spread all over the world. It is in the Russian Federation that the greatest number of mafia organized criminal associations can be found. The Russian mafia operates mainly in the Russian federation and it can as well be traced in the ex-parts of the Soviet Republic, European countries, Israel and the United States. International gunrunning, drug trade and trade with the nuclear materials and financial frauds present the main profit to the mafia, which started to spread after the fall of the Iron Curtain in 1991. The structure of the Russian mafia is in a shape of a vertical pyramid. The main aim that they try to achieve is to get the biggest possible profit and at the same time defend the positions that they have acquired. They realize the aims by using physical force and threats. During the development of the Russian Federation, there have four forms of the Russian organized crime developed so far: the old Soviet style of the organized crime, ethnically organized groups, groups called »Vory v Zakone« and criminal associations which have been formed around influential people in a certain area and carry out individual crime acts. The most powerful and influential group is called Solntsevskaya Bratva from Moscow which has 500 members and deals with prostitution, drug trade, blackmailing and gunrunning. They avoid law enforcement and its measures by dealing with entrepreneurships and use their legally formed companies to do money laundering. Money has been gained by illegal activities. Every company managed by the Russian mafia, either legal or illegal, must be protected. In Russia, the organized crime has infiltrated in political and economic areas. There are many politicians and state officials corrupt as they help the Russian mafia to carry out criminal acts successfully, undisturbed and hidden from the bodies of law enforcement.
