Abstract

Secondary title: A HISTORY OF PRIMARY SCHOOL IVANJKOVCI UNTIL 2010
Secondary abstract: The beginnings of schooling in Ivanjkovci date back to the 19th century when only a few children attended the small rectory where a priest was teaching them. Soon the number of children began to increase so the class moved to the nearby house for the sexton. The increase in the number of students forced them to gradually expand the building. The change in the school system resulted in the expansion of a one-year school into a two-year school, afterwards a three-year school and in 1923 into a four-year school. As early as in 1954 the primary school in Svetinje became a complete eight-year school, which was cancelled again in 1962. Thus began 30 years of struggle for the re-establishment of an eight-year primary school. The school at Svetinje became too small and increasingly overcrowded. Therefore, the community was pressuring the authorithies to build a new school with larger spaces that would enable carrying out normal classes. After a long bureaucratic war they achieved that a new school was built in the valley of Ivanjkovci in 1990, which contributed to better teaching conditions. During the academic year of 1993/1994 the school in Ivanjkovci became an eight-year school again. However, the issue of capacity remained, so the class was carried out in two shifts. An extension to the school was built in 1995 and a new gym in 1998. Thus all conditions were given for one-shift classes, since there were 9 bright classrooms with cabinets and a new gym, which delighted locals as well as the school staff and the students. Today the building offers all possibilities for proper classes and we are proud of it as well as of the school staff, which strives to give the students basic knowledge and prepare them for further education.
