Formative assessment has gained quite a lot of interest over the years with elementary school teachers. It is a form of lesson that largely involves pupil's active role and the construction of a long-lasting and qualitative knowledge, to which the teachers are striving more and more. With this intention, a practical lesson, which involves elements of formative assessment in the 3rd grade of elementary school, is presented in this master’s thesis. The master's thesis is composed of two parts, theoretical and practical. In the theoretical part of the thesis, we have presented, in detail, the concept of formative assessment, its elements, principles, and have focused on the practical implementation of the formative assessment. In the empirical part of the thesis, a lesson, which is based on the elements of formative assessment, is presented. A precise description of the lesson is introduced; it’s plan, delivery, course of lesson, and assessment. We have devised the lesson and, based by it, constructed and planned activities. The effectiveness of it was tested in the 3rd grade, at one of the elementary schools in the Savinjska region. We have retrieved the results with observing by a check list, focus group and an interview with a teacher. We have concluded that the pupils, who were present during a lesson integrated with formative assessment, were more motivated and active during schoolwork. The overall memorisation and satisfaction were also greater among those pupils. |
