Sekundarni naslov: Fifth grade students in Slovene public and waldorf elementary schools
Sekundarni povzetek: This master thesis focuses on pedagogical and psychosocial aspects of fifth grade students in public elementary school in Slovenia. The first segment of the theoretical part describes development of public and Waldorf elementary schools, and continues with learning objectives, programs and curricula of both elementary schools. The second segment defines the following pedagogical and psychosocial aspects: self-image, study motivation, study habits and classroom climate. The empirical part contains a research aimed at discovering social, emotional, academic and physical self-image of fifth graders, their study motivation, whether they have appropriate study habits, what their interpersonal relations are, and their personality development. The results show that students have a good perception of self, their mean social self-esteem is lower, but their academic, physical and especially emotional self-esteem are higher than average. Based on the results, their motivation to study derives partly from wanting to avoid bad grades, however, they are also inquisitive and want to excel in certain areas. This points on an average degree of extrinsic and intrinsic motivation, as well as on a higher level of studying importance. Students in average have suitable study habits. In comparison to boys, girls showed better study habits. Classroom climate among students of the fifth grade is perceived to be pleasant, and conflicts with other students occur rarely. There is only a negligible percentage of students who are particularly competitive and those who sense a high degree of difficulty to cope with school work, so we can say, a cooperative environment prevails in the classroom.
