Sekundarni naslov: Cooperation between parents and school in students' constructive coping with failure
Sekundarni povzetek: Since time immemorial, parents have made every effort to make their children as successful as possible. They have been prepared to do and sacrifice a great deal for their child's success. However, there exist different perceptions of parents on what represents a success or a failure for their child. The purpose of this thesis is to study the attitude of parents towards failure of their children, based on a sample from second to sixth grade of primary school. We wanted to establish their concept of failure and their perception of its influence on child's learning process and the quality of child's knowledge. We examined how parents responded to their child's failure, who they consulted and if they wanted to learn more about how to cope constructively with their child's failure and in what way. 110 parents of primary school students from Celje and its surroundings were included in the study, 41 of them fathers and 69 mothers. To measure the stated constructs, the survey questionnaire based entirely on the questionnaire used in the Haimovitz and Dweck survey (2016) was implemented. The questionnaire scanned in three sets: perceptions, responses and wishes, with the scale of perceptions, scale of responses and scale of wishes, and with four partly closed-ended questions. The results show that parents tend to have more positive than negative attitude towards failure. Their response to their child's failure is constructive to a greater extent than non-constructive. The differences between mothers and fathers reports were statistically insignificant. The same holds true of the correlation of failure and self-reported response. Even though the survey has its limitations, it can be seen as a significant contribution to the raising of parents' awareness of the importance of their perception of failure and the influence it has on their children. For many parents expressed their wish to learn more about the topic. For that reason, the guidelines were formed that can help parents as well as teachers to cope constructively with the children's failure.
