diplomsko delo visokošolskega študijskega programa Varnost in policijsko delo

Domestic violence and the COVID-19 pandemic |
Sekundarni povzetek: |
World health organization announced a new coronavirus pandemic on March 11th 2020. With that announcement came a period of different measures, a world crisis and fear among people.
Most countries around the world have begun to put in place measures in hopes to stop or slow down the spread of the new coronavirus and of relieving the health system in order to protect lives. The measure that brought the biggest change was lockdown, which meant closing companies, quarantine or self-isolation, school closures, restriction of movement and other measures that the vast majority of people have not yet experienced. All institutions and activities in which people are exposed to social contacts have been closed, except for the most urgent ones (pharmacies, food stores ...). Around this time, articles about the rise of mental illnes and the number of reported domestic violence began to appear in the media. Many experts have begun to research the stress people are under, due to the uncertainty and panic that the media publishes every day.
The thesis is based on the search for answers to two research questions, which question whether isolation had an impact on people’s mental health and whether isolation had a great impact on the increase of domestic violence. Based on international studies, the answers to the questions are affirmative, as there has been an increase in mental illness as well as an increase in domestic violence. |
