Starše je potrebno poučiti o negi poškodovanega otroka in jim ob tem nuditi oporo.

Sekundarni povzetek: Theoretical frameworks. First aid, identification of injuries, and proper treatment of spinal injuries are three of the basic actions conducted with children and adults. The right conduct of first aid at the place of the accident can prevent harsher consequences of injuries while wrong actions can make the situation even worse. The purpose of this thesis is to determine the level of first aid knowledge concerning spinal injuries among high school students and to describe the role of the nurse in treatment of children with spinal injuries. Research methodology. In the research the descriptive method of work was used. Theoretical starting point was determined with analysis of national and international literature. The empirical part of the research included a questionnaire with nineteen questions. Research sample covered a group of eighty high school students from Secondary school of Nursing and Secondary school of Economics in Slovenj Gradec. Results. The results show that the students from Secondary school of Nursing have more first aid knowledge than the students from Secondary school of Economics. Students from Secondary school of Nursing would also take control in conducting first aid at the place of the accident in case of spinal injury with children more often than students from Secondary school of Economics. Conclusion. First aid knowledge of non-professionals is extremely important when dealing with spinal injury of children because we want to prevent additional injuries of spinal cord and nerves. The role of the nurse is also very important when treating a child with spinal injury. The nurse has to teach the parents how to take care of the injured child and also offer them emotional support.
