diplomsko delo
Izhodišče raziskave predstavlja problem učinkovitega prenosa idej in nalog od vodstva organizacij do IT oddelkov. Eden izmed ključnih dejavnikov uspešnosti IT projektov so ljudje in njihove kompetence. V začetku naloge smo navedli teoretična izhodišča, definirali cilje naloge, opredelili tehnike in metode, s katerimi smo cilje poskušali realizirati, ter teoretično opredelili in definirali osnovne pojme. V drugem delu naloge smo s pomočjo ugotovitev raziskav drugih avtorjev izdelali izhodiščni teoretični model kompetenc uspešnega IT managerja. V jedru naloge smo opisali primarno empirično raziskavo, ki smo jo izvedli s pomočjo kvalitativnih metod (globinskih intervjujev) v nekaj slovenskih organizacijah.

Competencies of successful IT managers |
Sekundarni povzetek: |
The thesis is of multidisciplinary type, but in its core deals with the field of informational technology, more specifically with leading and managerial IT managers. The starting ground of the thesis is based on the transfer process of ideas and tasks between organization's senior management and its IT department as well as the efficiency of the transfer process itself. In practice it has become increasingly apparent that employees that are usually scattered throughout the organization's hierarchy structure oftentimes claim that a good portion of IT projects never get successfully finalised or they simply do not end up having a favourable outcome. Nowadays IT project have a significant, sometimes even direct impact on the organization's overall success. People, their competencies or lack thereof seem to be one of the key factors when it comes to success of IT projects. Initially we stated some of the thesis's starting points, we established thesis's main goals, we defined the necessary techniques and methods using which we tried to successfully complete the beforehand established goals and ultimately we defined and described some of theoretical grounds, terms and concepts. Using findings of other authors we in the next part of the thesis came up with a base theoretical model of successful IT managers. The inner part of the thesis describes the original empirical research that we conducted in several Slovenian organizations using qualitative methods, in-depth interviews in particular. Analysing the data we gathered allowed us to improve and further upgrade our previously established theoretical model. The conclusions we gathered seem to be pointing at the fact that it is not just one competence but rather a stack of competencies which directly impact the successfulness of an individual IT manager. We also concluded that competencies that IT managers require in order to be successful vary based on organization's base activity, the size of the organization as well as the level on which the IT manager operates. Ultimately, we provided the limitations of the research as well as some recommendations for further researchers. Additionally, we proposed some of the ways in which the model can be used in practice both in the selective and hiring process of potential IT managers as well as in continuous educational and training process of already existing employees. |
