diplomsko delo

Sekundarni naslov: Prejudices and stereotypes towards homosexuals
Sekundarni povzetek: Prejudices are unjustified, unreasonable or unverified standpoints. They are often accompanied by passionate feelings that encourage such prejudicial thinking. Prior to this research, I assumed the society was intolerant towards the different groups of people. The rights of homosexuals, their options in the society and their lifestyle represent constant sources of questions; therefore, the scope of my research touched the field of negative prejudices and stereotypes against different groups - especially against homosexuals. The first part of this diploma paper forms a theoretical background of prejudices and stereotypes against same-sex orientation. In depth information on the matter was provided by the members of Legebitra Society and DIH Society. The second part reveals the survey results, conducted on the testimonies of a random sample of people regarding their (un)acceptance of different groups of people in their society and how they cope with the presence of such differences. The main objective of this research was to see if there are differences in perceiving "difference" among the respondents of different sex, age, education level and community type. Moreover, open-ended questions were asked in interviews with two lesbians and gays where they shared their thought and experiences of living in a society that is prejudicial against their sexual orientation. When making conclusions on the basis of the data acquired, considering the complexity and sensitivity of the subject was crucial, since the respondents' answers might have been bias or unspoken. With this research, it has been identified older respondents and the ones living in rural areas, tend to be more prejudicial in comparison to the rest of the sample. On the one hand, homosexual interviewees tend not to have bigger issues with their sexual orientation, but on the other hand, they are aware of their limitations in rights and desires.
