diplomsko delo

Sekundarni naslov: COOPERATION BETWEEN PARENTS AND EXPERTS IN THE KINDERGARTEN INTEGRATION PROCESS OF CHILDREN WITH DOWN SYNDROME
Sekundarni povzetek: In my diploma thesis, I focused on parent - professional partnership dealing with the kindergarten integration of children with Down syndrome. I was interested in their experience, their mutual connection as well as the relationship between children with Down syndrome and the professionals working together in the project team. I chose this subject because as a Kindergarten teacher's assistant, I already had experience with children diagnosed with Down syndrome. In the first part of the thesis the theoretical points are presented, while in the second, empirical part, a poll was used to find out more about life and work with such children, the problems of their parents and professional workers. The aim was also to get to know how to help parents of the children with Down syndrome and how to achieve good cooperation in education and upbringing of these children. While working with children with special needs in groups as well as working as a children's attendant I became aware that every single one of them is unique and once we accept them as they are, they can be offered much more. Furthermore, the poll result analysis indicated certain similarities between the professional workers and the parents of Down syndrome children regarding extra professional help and different opinions about adaptation. Professionals agreed that for a child with Down syndrome, it is good to stop all of the activities that the child indulges in and to adapt to their own rate, while parents think that the child does not need interrupted activity nor a different or an adapted tempo. However, both groups support the integration of children with Down syndrome into the regular kindergarten group. Parents and professionals believe that the inclusion of children with Down syndrome in a group is good for a child because it has positive effects on a child development and that children with Down syndrome feel good in a group, that their peers accept them and that the professional help and treatment have positive effects on their quality of life. Parents and professionals also believe that children with Down syndrome work well with each other and that there is an easy relationship with good communication between them. Parents and professionals put emphasis on early treatment of children with Down syndrome in Slovenia, where they are believed to be well taken care of.
