Literacy is a life-long process due to the fact that the final point of it cannot be reached. The process is based on four basic language competences: listening, speaking, reading and writing.
Literacy is usually defined as the capacity of reading and writing while some claim it is also a social activity.
In this thesis the main focus was put on trying to find out how educators in kindergarten can contribute to the improvement of literacy with children aged from four to six in a faster and more qualitative way.
Tests were carried out on two quite homogeneous groups of children. The first test was carrying out the programme that can be helpful in improving the development of literacy; it was put into action in the experimental group while in the other group no such thing was carried out. With the second testing I have found out that a higher level of progress could have been detected in the experimental group as compared to the control group.
The results of my experiment are comparable to the previous research of the author Marija Grginič who carried out her research on a larger sample. |
