The impact of family literacy on the early literacy process of children |

Reading literacy is a skill, considered as one of the most important skills already in kindergarten. It is the foundation for future success in school and also gives a child the possibility for the development of his personality. Early literacy includes not only reading and writing skills, but involves also other areas, such as development of large and fine motor skills, development of visual-motor coordination, development of auditory and visual processes, etc.). Educators and parents as key players are the ones, who provide the child with appropriate incentives for the development of literacy.
Considering the modern research on this topic my main goal was to find out how much the level of literacy in the family affects the child's literacy development. In the theoretical part of this paper I started by presenting the concept of literacy and continued with various theories and opinions of experts on the theme. In the empirical part that follows I was curious, if literacy in the family can influence the child’s early literacy. Results were obtained by questionnaires with closed questions that have been filled out and submitted by one hundred parents from Ciciban kindergarten. I graphically displayed the obtained data.
Based on data obtained by questionnaires, I have come to the conclusion that family reading habits do not differ significantly between the child’s first and second age period, that parents often involve children in activities related to literacy and are aware of the importance of literacy for further success in school. |

Najprej sem v teoretičnem delu diplomske naloge predstavila pojem pismenost in nadaljevala z različnimi teorijami in mnenji strokovnjakov o izbrani temi.
