Sekundarni naslov: Comparative analysis of the level of adaptive behaviour according to place of residence of adults with moderate intellectual disabilities
Sekundarni povzetek: Adaptive behaviour (AB) is a way of meeting personal requirements of natural and social surroundings. Rate of AB shows the level of which an individual is able to use the cognitive potential for adapting to the demands of everyday life. Persons with intellectual disabilities (ID) in the process of education are generally able to live a fairly independent life and work. However, they are never completely independent as they require different levels of management and support all of their lives. They follow the same legality in development as any other person; however, their development is slower and it shows deviations in the management of individual skills, habits, and developing abilities. Therefore, they manage to adapt their behaviour only to a certain degree. In an effort to make more objective assessment of the adapted behaviour, the intellectual ability of the individual was initially measured in the past which has not shown to be a sufficient criterion for the identification and classification of persons with ID. This has led to the development of measurement instruments for the determination of AB and consequently to the creation of numerous adapted behaviour scales. I assume in the thesis that the wards from the institution who receive a constant stimulus by the qualified staff show higher level of AB skills as wards in the domestic environment. My goal has been a comparative analysis of AB level according to the place of residence of adults with moderate ID. According to the place of residence, I divided the wards working at VDC between those living at home and those living within the institution. For the purpose of the research, I shaped an observation scale, based on existing AAMD and ABAS-II scales. It is divided into 7 areas which consist of total 117 claims with a 5-step scale from 0 to 4. It has been fulfilled by professional staff employed at VDC Tončka Hočevar. 27 adults with moderate ID, aged between 27 and 40 years, have been included in the comparison of those 14 wards from their domestic environment and 13 wards from the institution. By comparing both samples by areas I have found out that there is no statistically significant difference between the samples of wards from the domestic environment and the wards from the institution. The biggest differences are in the area of functional academic skills and there are none in the area of communication and work; elsewhere deviations are insignificant. With a properly designed scale and a comprehensive research the most critical areas and major differences of existing VDC could be assessed.

Zato uspejo svoje vedenje prilagoditi le do določene stopnje.
