Sekundarni naslov: Emotional intelligence and extraversion – introversion personality dimension of children with mild mental disorder
Sekundarni povzetek: I researched the areas of emotional intelligence and extraversion – introversion personality dimension of children with mild mental disorder. A child’s development depends significantly on emotional intelligence characteristics, especially the child’s ability to function normally in his or her environment. Emotional intelligence is linked to the extraversion – introversion personality dimension. Two components are characteristic of extroverted people: impulsiveness and social competence. I wanted to establish what the expressed level of particular components of emotional intelligence was and its connection to the extraversion – introversion personality dimension of children with mild mental disorder. I divided emotional intelligence into 12 components: adaptability, assertiveness, emotional appraisal, emotional expression, emotional management of others, emotional regulation, impulsiveness, self-esteem, self-motivation, social competence, stress management and empathy. The main objective of the research was to measure the differences between girls and boys regarding the components of adaptability, emotional appraisal, emotional expression, impulsiveness, self-esteem, stress management and empathy. Additionally, I also wished to measure the correlation between assertiveness and emotional expression, between emotional regulation and emotional management of others, between emotional regulation and impulsiveness and between social competence and empathy as well as the impulsiveness and social competence of extroverted people. I prepared a questionnaire, leading the students through the entire questionnaire by reading aloud the questions and answers. The data obtained were then processed using the Microsoft Excel and SPSS software programmes. The results of the survey showed, that the girls fell into the group with low expressed level of adaptability, emotional expression, impulsiveness and stress management. They ranked highly in terms of expressed level of emotional appraisal, self-esteem, self-motivation and empathy. Boys fell into the group with low expressed level for the following components: adaptability, impulsiveness and stress management, and ranked highly with regard to emotional appraisal, emotional expression, self-esteem, self-motivation and empathy. According to expectations, the correlation between assertiveness and emotional expression (not according to gender), between emotional regulation and emotional management of others was positive, although statistically negligible in both cases. The correlation between emotional regulation and impulsiveness was negative and between social competence and empathy positive, both being statistically significant at a level of 0.01. Based on the results of the research, extroverted and introverted people tend to possess a low expressed level of impulsiveness. The level of impulsiveness is more expressed among extroverted than introverted people, however, the difference is not statistically significant. Extroverted and introverted people possess a high expressed level of social competence. The level of social competence is more expressed among extroverted than introverted people, and again, the difference is not statistically significant. The results of the research show which components of emotional intelligence of children with mild mental disorder need to be developed. Those components that are highly developed can aid us in improving other components, whether in the classroom or in relation to individual work outside of school.
