Pedestrian areas today represent an important link between motor traffic and traffic by foot. To operate with each other properly, they have to comply with certain conditions. However, as these conditions so far were nowhere to be found, the primary goal of this work was to collect and combine knowledge of transport planning and design elements for pedestrian areas. These findings should help architects and other planners to guide them, with the basic rules and the difficulties in developing areas. It is important, that the streets and pedestrian zones are beautifully designed. They should be wide and user-friendly, because only that way the pedestrians will use it in daily bases. With the growth of motor traffic, so far the attention was focused on the motoring, but pedestrians were set aside. This we have to change, because people are increasingly aware of the good effects of movement and it is important to stimulate them to use areas for pedestrians. It will be achieved only through effective transport integration between motor powered vehicles and pedestrians. The car must be placed at the point to which it belongs, but also pedestrians. However, if we want that everything is working in the best order, there must be some rules established between them. |
