Life cycle assessment of building elements |
Sekundarni povzetek: |
The thesis deals with assessing the environmental impact of a selected product or process. For this purpose, life cycle assessment analysis (LCA) method was developed in the nineties. The method evaluates the influence of the product/process throughout its life cycle, from raw materials extraction to its end of life. First, the development of the method is briefly presented, together with its fundamentals, methodology, elements, limitations and guidelines. The existing standards are presented. A few examples available in the literature that are relevant for construction are presented. Results of these studies show that LCA is a useful metohd to evaluate and assess the environmental impacts throughout the life cyle, i.e. influences that appear during production, use and removal of construction products and buildings. Further, a comparative study of two reinforced concrete walls was carried out by using commercially available software SimaPro. The obtained results show that for the case considered, the largest influence upon the environment stems from the cement production and the selected end-of-life scenario. |
