Due to current favorable economic trends, the construction companies often forget that it is unrealistic to expect equal trends over a longer time period in the future. In order to achieve satisfactory long term performance, it is necessary to think about the future now. Strategic planning has to start when the general climate is good and allows introduction of new fields of work. The thesis presents and justifies some of the potential markets and strategies which could ensure the growth and profits of construction industry in the future. Markets and strategies that currently exhibit potential (locally or globally) are identified. The thesis is limited to establishing the future trends within Slovenia and does not consider the expansion of Slovenian construction industry into the international markets. Eight markets and ten strategies, which can be judged as having a reasonable potential for future development of construction industry in Slovenia, are presented. The assessment is based on environmental, political, demographic and economic trends. The lines of development presented are evaluated also from the economic and time view. The presented markets show that the Slovenian construction industry will have to focus on integral services on one hand, or specialize for selected services that will become more important in the future on the other hand. |
