Sharing nature with children and adolescents with moderate, severe or profound intellectual disabilities |

One of the main and most important principles in educating children and adolescents with moderate, severe or profound intellectual disabilities is integrity. This means that each person tries to develop as a whole, so that they can achieve as much as they can in all areas of functioning. Open-air school is a very good way to achieve this, especially when learning about nature. By carefully planning the open-air school curriculum we allow children and adolescents with moderate, severe or profound intellectual disabilities to gain experience that they could not gain at home or in the classroom and at the same time we offer them a chance to develop and progress in all areas of functioning.
The present thesis presents the curriculum and the execution of the two-day autumn open-air school for eleven students attending the special education programme. The activities that I carried out during the open-air school are appropriate for children and adolescents with moderate, severe or profound intellectual disabilities. They are suitable for being carried out in nature. They encourage consciousness of nature, its characteristics and acceptance of nature with all sense organs and sharpen the senses as well.
The results of the interview that I conducted with all the students before and after attending the open-air school are also presented in the thesis. The intention of the interview was to measure the quality and quantity of the knowledge, awareness and attitude of the participants of the open-air school towards nature before and after attending it. Unfortunately the interview as a whole did not achieve its goals and the results aquired by it do not demonstrate a realistic state of the knowledge, awareness and attitude of the students towards nature. |

Eno izmed najpomembnejših načel vzgoje in izobraževanja otrok in mladostnikov z zmernimi, s težjimi in težkimi motnjami v duševnem razvoju je celovitost.
