Socialization through the puppet |

This thesis presents the theoretical bases which comprise the socialisation of preschool children and the role of puppets in it.
The theoretical part reveals how a puppet has an important influence on the development of a child’s social skills and consequently helps develop a child’s personality. Puppets have had, for many years, a firm position in educational institutions mostly as a drama medium, but today kindergarten teachers and educators in the first triad of elementary schools are encouraged to use a puppet as an assistant at communication, at speech development, at aggressive child behaviour, at learning (ex. clothing, emotional responses etc.) and at forming a friend group. Through a case study of a group of 17 children aged 3 to 4, I have performed a project in which I have included the group’s favourite puppet Mister Shirt (Gospod Srajčka). I wanted to find out if it was possible to achieve a child’s socialisation in a group with the help of a puppet.
The wider intent of the study was also to show the impossibility of not using the puppet, as I have frequently managed a difficult situation with more ease with the help of the puppet than without it.
The results have shown that children were more than happy to accept the puppet. Children who had problems with communication before the beginning of the study showed progress. Children who had problems with dressing themselves overcame this, which was also confirmed by the parents.
The results have shown that a puppet positively influences a child’s socialisation. |
