Children's ideas about rocks |
Sekundarni povzetek: |
Rocks have an important role in people’s lives. They can be used as building material or even in art. The fact that there are many proverbs and sayings on the topic of rocks also shows their importance. They were a source of very interesting, although scarce, games for our grandfathers and grandmothers in their childhood. And children have not changed much to this day. Stones still make them enthusiastic and they love to hide them in their pockets.
In the theoretical part of my thesis I wrote about formation and classification of rocks. There is also a short description of the characteristics of rocks. Natural science is an important field in kindergarten since through active learning those activities create mind schemes that are significant for children’s further education and for proper understanding of the world around them.
In the empirical part I tried to establish the level of pre-knowledge that four-year-olds have about rocks. I questioned nineteen four-year-old children individually. Their answers are represented in a bar graph.
For the purposes of the practical part of my thesis we performed different activities to discover the world of rocks. The activities included picking and gathering rocks, observing, drawing rocks, touching rocks, making different rhythmic patterns using rocks. We weighted rocks on simple scales, and played bowls. During these activities, new questions came up, and we looked for the answers in different books. We then sorted rocks according to their characteristics, and made rock impressions in clay. We examined the solidness of rocks, made a pigment out of rock and used it for painting. We also tried a simpler way of drawing with rocks on hard surfaces like asphalt and concrete.
After the activities were finished, I asked the children the same questions again. I entered the answers in the graphs again and compared the results.
In the findings I wrote down my anticipations before the beginning of the thesis, and the results that arose during and at the end of my research. |

Povzetek (ePrints): |
Kamnine imajo v življenju ljudi pomembno vlogo. Mnogim našim dedkom in babicam so kamnine in kamni predstavljale zelo zanimive igrice v njihovem otroštvu. Kamni jih še vedno navdušujejo in jih radi nabirajo in spravljajo v žepe.
V teoretičnem delu diplomskega dela sem zajela nekaj o nastanku in vrstah kamnin.
