: In the master's thesis, the ways of how the parents of bilingual children in ethnically mixed region of Lendava are considering bilingualism and conservation of national identity are explored. The theoretical platforms cover the comprehensions of minority nation of the Hungarians of Prekmurje, multiculturalism and multinationalism, identity, family and the significance of parents at the conservation of the minority identity and bilingual education. In the Slovenian (bilingual) sphere this remains an unexplored area, namely the significance of bilingual schools is often stressed (Bokor, 2009, Kolláth, 2005, 2009, Nečak Lük, 2010, Varga, 2009); however the role of parents, who are also an important factor at the preservation of bilingualism, is only rarely mentioned. In the empirical part, the results of interviews with the parents in bilingual schools are presented. In what way parents with their upbringing contribute to the preservation of the minority ethnicity of children and how they evaluate the actions of the school at this is researched by a quality methodological approach. The findings learned provide an insight into parents’ contemplations about the preservation of bilingualism, as well as an in-depth understanding of the differentiated possible responses of families in a bilingual environment. One of the main conclusions of this research is that an adequate bilingual educational system and parents’ decision to conserve the ethnicity are required for the conservation of the minority ethnicity. |
