Cooperation between parents and teachers is one of the important aspects of quality kindergarten education because it complements family education in an adequate way. Both parents and teachers are expected to cooperate in children's education because it is the only way to successfully harmonise educational styles and encourage comprehensive development of children. The theoretical part defines childhood, family education and kindergarten education. It touches on the cooperation between parents and teachers and the harmonisation of their approaches to children's education. The empirical part contains the results of a research, in which 50 parents and 33 teachers and teacher assistants took part. The sample consisted of the parents whose child is attending a kindergarten in a town or village and teachers working in a kindergarten in a town or village. Results suggest that teachers and parents usually cooperate during individual consultation hours, parent meetings, celebrations and picnics, or though activities aiming to involve parents in the work of a class. On the one hand, the parents do not usually encounter difficulties when cooperating with teachers, but on the other hand, the teachers point to a number of issues they have been facing when cooperating with parents. Although the parents feel responsible for their children's education, they still believe that the teachers are responsible as well. |
