In my thesis I have studied the conflicts between children in primary education, and the role of the teacher in solving these conflicts.
The theoretical part of my paper consist of the definition of conflict, types of conflicts, reasons for outburst of conflict situations as well as consequences which may occur due to unsolved or inappropriately solved conflicts. I have introduced the role of the teacher and adequate measures which a professional worker can take to resolve these conflicts between children in primary schools.
The empirical part of my thesis shows the research of situations between children, which teachers perceive as conflicts. The matters that interested me were if the children are allowed to resolve conflicts between themselves, how teachers observe their role in dealing with these conflicts amongst children, and which strategies they use for this. For research I have used survey questionnaire for teachers of children in primary education. I have reached a conclusion that the most frequent reason for the occurrence of conflict situations between primary school children is a toy. These situations, based on the opinion of the majority of interviewers, are occasional. Usually, teachers leave the children to work through the conflict on their own, save in cases when the aroused conflict could lead to violence. Teachers feel as if they are carrying a great responsibility when they interfere in these situations, and that they most commonly approach these situations with mediation. I have established that the teachers see themselves as capable enough to solve these primary school conflicts. However, they wish for some extra education which relates to the mentioned issue. |
