Ugotovili smo, da so učenci bolj naklonjeni književnemu kakor jezikovnemu pouku in ustnemu preverjanju in ocenjevanju znanja slovenščine v primerjavi s pisnim.

Sekundarni naslov: ǂThe ǂattitude of primary school pupils towards Slovene
Sekundarni povzetek: The thesis deals with Slovene classes in primary schools and their popularity among pupils. The work is based on theoretical insights, questionnaire responses, and an analysis and comparison of results with other studies. The purpose of the research presented was to establish the attitudes of 6th to 9th grade pupils at selected primary schools towards the subject of Slovene, more specifically, how difficult it seems to them, how many of them enjoy Slovene class, and the proportion of pupils who regard the classes and teaching of Slovene during them as interesting and varied. We also wished to research how successful pupils are in Slovene class and how they assess the difficulty and popularity of the two cornerstones of Slovene teaching - literature and language, the various means of assessment and evaluation, as well as class activities and content (oral presentations, essays, grammar exercises, poetry learning, dealing with literary works, poetry, prose, drama...) and how students would rate various aids and materials used by their Slovene teachers in terms of popularity. We were interested in whether students encounter any problems during Slovene class, and which occur most frequently, how many of them attend supplementary and advanced classes, how much time pupils devote to homework and self-study, and how much time they use to prepare for national assessment examinations in Slovene in 6th and 9th grade. We also wished to establish the proportion of pupils who regard their grades as important, as well as the reason for this, and how many pupils are aware of the importance of the knowledge they acquire during Slovene class for post-school life. Through comparison of the questionnaire responses, we were able to establish, where relevant, deviations according to gender, age and academic success. The emprirical section presents the results obtained through pupil questionnaires. The results showed that Slovene is a moderately popular subject among primary school pupils, and that the majority of pupils regard it as moderately difficult. The majority of pupils enjoy attending Slovene class, describing the lessons as interesting and varied. We discovered that pupils prefer literature to language and oral assessment and grading to written assessment of Slovene. The results also indicate that the majority of pupils find learning poetry by heart the most difficult of tasks, while they place oral presentations among the easiest - a task they also rate as the most interesting. Conversely, the least interesting aspect of class is grammar, or grammar exercises. The analysis showed that less than a third of pupils encounter difficulties in Slovene class, and that the most common difficulties lie in understanding and learning grammar. Most of those questioned believe that their Slovene grade is important, as a poor grade is seen as an obstacle to enrolling in their high-school of choice, while many also believe that as Slovene is our mother tongue, they should be very familiar with it and able to use it correctly. Pupils are aware of the significance of the knowledge they acquire during Slovene class, which is important for post-school life, for example in further education, in their career, in communication and personal relations, etc. The questionnaire findings also showed that less than a third of pupils attend supplementary and advanced Slovene class. While the average time spent on homework and self-study is between 1 and 3 hours, a good quarter of pupils devote no time at all to Slovene outside of school. As regards teaching aids and materials, pupils like modern means (computer and audio-visual equipment) most, while they enjoy traditional teaching aids and materials much less (overhead projector, worksheets, posters, workbooks).
