diplomsko delo visokošolskega strokovnega študija Varnost in policijsko delo
Testiranja živalim povzročajo grozovito trpljenje in neznosne bolečine, saj jih večina ni omamljenih in vsa ta testiranja se izvajajo v prid človeštva.

Experiments on animals as a form of torture |

In the thesis we discuss animal testing in Slovenia and around the World. Animal testing is a form of animal cruelty that is only partly restricted but not completely banned by national legislation. Controversial is especially treatment of animals that are used in animal testing; as well as the actual number of manufacturers in cosmetics, pharmaceutics and other industries who fully adhere to actual legislation. After analyzing existing literature we come to the conclusion that animal cruelty is in fact very common and frequent problem in all the countries in the World. People don’t understand or simply forget the benefits and good that animals’ presence brings to them. Next, we noted that animal testing was used already in distant history and that the animals played important role in development of antibiotics and other medicines that are today of highest importance to humans. Animal testing is today still widespread although there are many useful methods that could substitute it; for that reason this topic constantly triggers controversy. The sad fact is that common practice with animal testing makes other, more humane methods, less interesting for most of the manufacturers. Animal testing is gruesome for the animals and causes them unbearable pain as most of the animals are not sedated; all of this for the good of the mankind. In all the countries around the World there are animal welfare associations and groups that are fighting for animal rights and try to protect them in every possible way. However, these associations and groups do not have jurisdiction that would allow them to act and react when animal cruelty is detected. According to existing legislation in different countries, their only possibility is to warn the owners of the animals that were exposed to animal cruelty. Governments around the World are the ones who have to prepare and enforce the laws in the field of animal welfare and make sure that any breach of the law will not be tolerated. However, the essential thing is that not only animal welfare associations but all the people in the World start to work on our attitude towards animals and become more humane towards them. |
