The degree paper focuses on the prosedure of training a police dog, individual exercises and on the problems that police dog handlers and their tutors come across on daily basis. We came to the conclusion that all exercises are being conducted with the use of positive motivation circle and that the corrections are made calmly and without punishing improper behavior of a police dog. Through the writting of this degree paper we realized how important it is for every police dog handler to understand the psychology of dogs and to be aware of the difference between dog and human thinking, which significantly contributes to the easier and more successful learning of a police dog. We found that in addition to the dog smell, hearing and vision, a touch is very important to dogs because it allows dogs to experience emotions and gradually form emotional bonds. With this degree paper we came to the conclusion that a good mental and physical health of both the police dog and its handler and a well educated handler and well trained police dog is not enough for them to work well as a team. They need willingness to cooperate with eachother which is achieved by constant training with positive motivation and spending quality time together. It is important for the police dog handler to be aware of his responsibility for the well being of the police dog while on the mission as well as the entire time of dogs police service, even in their free time. We came to the conclusion that by having a strong emotional bond between a police dog handler and his police dog, the dog feels the need to subject to the handler and follow his commands, which is the goal of every police dog handler, but can only be achieved if the handler understands that his actions and behavior have the greatest impact on the emergence of such a strong relationship. |
