Abstract

Secondary title: Measurement in natural science activities of preschool children
Secondary abstract: Measurement is a natural science procedure that children encounter already in the preschool period. In measuring activities, children learn about quantities, quantity measurement units, measuring devices and measurement strategies. In the theoretical part, the cognitive development of the child and the history of measurement with the help of literature was presented. A more detailed focus was placed on measurement in the preschool period, the measurement of various quantities, and other research related to measurement. In the empirical part 5 tasks, with which it was determined how children aged 4 to 6 understand measurement and basic measurement concepts, were presented. The observed children in the research showed understanding that an object has a volume, successfully recognized and measured the length and recognized the highest object among the given ones.
