magistrsko delo

Abstract

Secondary title: Encouraging reading literacy and reading motivation through an easy reading model in 9. grade of lower educational standards
Secondary abstract: The master's thesis deals with the reading literacy and reading motivation of 9th grade students of a lower educational standard. Reading literacy and reading motivation are multidimensional processes and are constantly evolving. When encouraging reading motivation, it is important for teachers to know various motivational strategies to help students increase their motivation to read. Reading literacy is the foundation of all other literacy skills and an extension of reading motivation. In the theoretical part of the master's thesis, the term reading literacy is first explained, with the emphasis on the cornerstones of reading literacy and the encouragement of reading literacy in students who have a mild intellectual disability. This is followed by the theoretical basis of students' reading motivation and a presentation of strategies for increasing students' reading motivation. The last part of the theoretical part is intended for easy reading and presentation of a lower educational standard. The empirical part of the master's thesis consists of two researches; in the first survey, the reading motivation of 9th grade students was determined, namely through the Reading Motivation Questionnaire for Younger Students. The second research focused on the reading comprehension of 9th grade students of a lower educational standard, namely through the adaptation of the sketch A cup of coffee, written by Ivan Cankar. The results of both studies showed that students have an average motivation for reading and that adapting the text to easy reading significantly increases the reading comprehension of students of a lower educational standard.
