Abstract

Some characteristics of feminatives in Pleteršnik’s dictionary |
| Secondary abstract: |
As a lexicographer, Pleteršnik strove to include in his dictionary a major part of the vocabulary of the Slovene language based on the material collected from books from different periods and from all dialects. In his endeavor, he was guided by the principle of accepting into the dictionary what could be found in the literature and in the people’s speech. The dictionary consistently included feminatives as independent entries, even though society at the time ascribed to women only a marginal role in public life. In doing so, he preserved valuable information about the linguistic choice of his time, which was manifested in the affixation and base variability of feminatives. |
