Global competition, the changing needs of the client and various problems of modern society predict new challenges for the economy of the 21st century. Knowledge and »being one step ahead of others« will be the crucial factors of success. Innovativeness and creation of innovation-friendly athosphere will become increasingly important. The main goal of the thesis is to present possibilities of using innovation management in construction sector, which, as a traditional sector, is slow to implement modern concepts. The fundamentals of innovation management, i.e. definitions, methods for creation and evaluation of ideas, methods to be used to select the best ideas, and possibilities for idea protection are presented. Special features of construction industry in this field are presented. Innovation process stakeholders both in the European Union as well as in Slovenia are described, with particular emphasis to Slovenian Construction Cluster as the institution carrying out both technological transfer and competition co-operation. Further, the current state of innovativeness in Slovenian construction companies is presented. Selected cases of technical and non-technical innovations in construction are described along with cost evaluation of selected product evaluation by using the whole life costing method. The results show that there are several cases of innovation management good practice in the Slovenian construction industry. |
